Harro! A Classic of Finnish Pop Art

A super star is in Tallinn and he’s staying for six months. And you can’t miss him! He is a brightly coloured fat pig with human qualities, having a cosy night in front of the television with his family, showing off his fine cars and boats or punching things with his fist. This is the creation of Finish pop artist Harro Koskinen (b. 1945, Turku), whose controversial artworks can be seen at the KuMu art museum’s 4th floor (B-wing). Harro! A Classic of Finnish Pop Art will be on show until March 28, 2010.

Final 2009 shows in Estonia’s art shrine

There’s one word in Estonia that makes the people of this small country feel proud: Kumu! An abbreviation of KunstuMuseum, meaning Art Museum, Kumu is the largest art museum in the Baltics and one of the largest in Northern Europe, housing today the seat of the Estonian Art Museum. A Russian theatre week in Tallinn

Four of the best Russian theatre productions of the year go onstage this spring during the week-long Golden Mask Theatre Festival that presents its fifth edition from 6 to 13 of October in the Estonian capital Tallinn and the town of Jõhvi 50 km from the Russian border. The festival, which offers a variety of theatre genres, from drama to comedy and from musical to puppetry, is addressing mainly the Russian speaking audience, but all performances have Estonian surtitles.

New opera season in Tallinn

The new season of the Estonian National Opera is definitely going to rejoice the visitors with its diverse repertoire and new productions. Fifteen opera productions, two operettas and one musical, eight ballet pieces, a show for the children, and many more delights expect those who will book in advance tickets for this 104th season, which opens September 4 and runs through the summer season in July 2010, with the traditional 3-week wrap-up presentation of the year.

Pöff… Black Nights, movie nights

Winter nights in the north of Europe are long and dark. These are the Black Nights -the opposite of the White Nights in the summer- that cinema lovers in Estonia have been waiting for once a year. The Black Nights Film Festival or Pöff takes place in Tallinn in November and is the undisputed highlight in the country’s film calendar. This year, Pöff celebrates its 13th edition, from November 12 to December 6, with a rich programme of screenings and four sub-festivals that satisfy all needs.
