Cyprus’ Film Fest celebrates fourth year

The fourth edition of the Cyprus International Film Festival (CIFF) is already here and for eight days, from October 30 to November 6, 2009, cinephiles in the Eastern Mediterranean island will have the opportunity to watch dozens of films from around the world that will compete for the Golden Aphrodite award and a cash prize that must be spent for the winner’s next project in Cyprus. Organizers invite us all to attend the screenings, which take place this year at the Pantheon Art Cinema in Nicosia.

Evis Sammoutis: thriving on challenges

What do Stockhausen, Berio, Ligeti, Varese, Xenakis have in common? They are just some of the 38 composers whose works are part of the Pharos Arts Foundation’s First International Contemporary Music Festival. The five consecutive concerts take place at the Shoe Factory. The modern venue, its high walls adorned with striking contemporary art and lots of chrome and glass, creates the ideal, intimate atmosphere for contemporary music. This was reiterated by one of the artistic directors, the internationally respected Cypriot composer, Evis Sammoutis.

110 Moments of History

This year the Bank of Cyprus commemorates its 110 years since its foundation in the Mediterranean island. To celebrate the occasion, the bank’s Cultural Foundation organized an exhibition at its re-furbished premises in Phaneromeni in old city of Nicosia. Visit the exhibition 110 Moments in our history not only because it pays a tribute to the power of man’s will and determination, but mostly because you’ll learn a lot about the history of Cyprus herself. The exhibition is running until November 15 but is closed throughout August.
